Oak Hill Hospital "Stars"

September 2006

Brenda Cavonis, RN, Operating Room Charge Nurse
Brenda joined Oak Hill Hospital in 1992. She started in the nursing department on the third floor as a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) and a nursing intern prior to transferring to the operating room (OR). Brenda is now OR charge nurse where she runs the OR control desk and is also the OR Meditech Module Coordinator. She and her husband live in Brooksville. Her nomination emphasized that every day Brenda shows her caring and dedication for Oak Hill. She wears many hats. Running an OR can be quite challenging from accommodating surgeons to the nurses and techs, to housekeeping and anesthesiologists, not to mention having to have the knowledge of all supplies and equipment that is used every day. In addition Brenda is in charge of the Meditech system for the OR. Her colleagues want her to know that she is appreciated for her efforts and believe she truly deserves “Star” distinction. In turn Brenda says the thing she loves most about Oak Hill Hospital is, “The wonderful people I work with.”

Lisa Emerson, Rehab Coordinator
Lisa first joined Oak Hill Hospital in 1997 where she worked in Registration and Central Scheduling for the emergency room and outpatient services and business office. She worked here until 2001. Lisa returned to Oak Hill Hospital in 2003 as the Rehab Coordinator managing the rehabilitation office and assisting the Director of Rehabilitation Services. She and her husband Gary live in Homosassa with their son Julian Barry, “who is the coolest nine-year old around.” Lisa was nominated not only for the work she does in her own position, but when the marketing director needed assistance she stepped in to help and was “totally efficient in everything she did.” Marketing was truly grateful. About Oak Hill Hospital Lisa says that she truly likes the family-like atmosphere and having a chance to make a difference in someone’s life every day.

Brian Hagen, HVAC/Maintenance Technician
Brian joined Oak Hill Hospital’s Plant Operations department in March of 2001 where he maintains the air conditioning equipment throughout the entire facility. Brian is extremely proud of his family. His wife, Virginia, is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and his daughter, Melissa, is completing her Master’s degree at the University of Louisiana. The Hagen’s live in Homosassa. Brian’s nomination came from an Oak Hill Hospital associate who stated, “As I came out of work, I experienced car trouble. I called security to tell them that I was leaving the truck in the parking lot overnight so I could take it to the shop in the morning. Brian overheard my conversation and came running over and fixed my vehicle. He was a life saver.” This is a great example of an associate that was caring enough to help another without even being asked. Brian enjoys his job at Oak Hill Hospital. He says that he truly likes the flexibility of being able to troubleshoot or repair various types of equipment and having fellow employees with a vast background of knowledge.

In making the announcement Oak Hill Hospital’s Chief Operating Officer Sonia Gonzalez said, “Dr. Thomas Frist, Senior, our founder, always believed that ‘Good people beget good people.’ People like Brenda, Lisa and Brian prove that Oak Hill Hospital will continue the legacy.”
